Dual-Head Flying Probe System for Printed Circuit Boards

With the Huntron Access DH2, two probe heads move automatically to freely selected test points on a printed circuit board assembly. This eliminates manual probe positioning during development, low-volume production, and repair. The integrated Huntron Tracker measures analog signatures on unpowered assemblies. A suitable external test instrument can be connected for other electrical measurements.

Huntron Access DH2: Targeting Two Test Points

The probe heads contact traces, pads, or component leads. This allows the user to check connections for opens and shorts and identify deviations from reference signatures. The DH2 is internally wired for 4-wire Kelvin measurements of trace and contact resistance. The optional 4-wire test kit and a compatible measuring instrument are also required.

Teaching Test Points Using the Camera Image

Each Z-axis is equipped with an autofocus color camera. The operator marks the required test point in the camera image, and the software stores the corresponding XY coordinates. Linear encoders on the X, Y, and Z axes report the actual axis positions. The controller uses these values to correct probe position deviations. The minimum XY step size is 0.4 µm. Over a travel distance of 254 mm, the XY movement accuracy is 20 µm.

Test Area and Test Station Integration

Together, both probe heads cover an area of 48.3 × 30.5 cm. The system accommodates assemblies up to 68.6 × 58 cm with component heights of up to 12.2 cm. The PC connects via USB 3.1. The floor-standing cabinet provides 19-inch rack space for additional test instruments. The Tracker supplies analog signatures, while other measurement values come from the connected instrument.

Alternative Products

If a single probe head is sufficient for the test task, the Huntron Access 2 USB Prober is an alternative for automated probing of medium to large printed circuit board assemblies. For repeatable RF near-field measurements using a spectrum analyzer and near-field probe, consider the Huntron Access RF Prober.
