Arbitrary Function Generators for Waveform Generation, Modulation, and Multi-Channel Testing
20 MHz and 30 MHz Models
The GW Instek AFG-30xx Series arbitrary function generators provide test signals for R&D, laboratory use, and automated test sequences. The AFG-3021 and AFG-3022 operate at frequencies up to 20 MHz, while the AFG-3031 and AFG-3032 reach 30 MHz. Depending on the model, one or two channels are available. A sampling rate of 250 MSa/s and 16-bit amplitude resolution provide finely resolved waveforms.
Waveforms for Circuit and Interface Testing
In addition to sine, square, triangle, ramp, pulse, and noise signals, the generators provide 65 built-in arbitrary waveforms. These include digital codes, different noise patterns, and mathematical waveforms. Custom waveforms can contain up to eight million points, with storage for up to ten waveforms in the instrument.
Separate Reference Potentials in the Test Setup
The signal grounds of the channels and the synchronization, modulation, and 10 MHz reference connectors are isolated from the chassis. On the dual-channel AFG-3022 and AFG-3032, the two channel grounds are also isolated from each other. This allows circuit sections with different reference potentials to be driven without connecting their grounds. The maximum permitted potential difference between signal ground and chassis is ±42 V peak.
Modulation, Sweep, and Coupled Channels
AM, FM, PM, PWM, and FSK vary the amplitude, frequency, phase, or pulse width of the output signal, or switch between defined frequency states. Sweep, burst, and trigger functions generate controlled frequency profiles and timed signal sequences. On dual-channel models, SUM modulation, tracking, and channel coupling coordinate both outputs. The harmonic generator adds harmonics up to the eighth order to the fundamental waveform, with amplitude and phase set independently.
Integration into Synchronized Test Setups
USB and LAN are included as standard, while GPIB is available as an option. External trigger and 10 MHz reference connections synchronize the function generator with oscilloscopes, measuring instruments, or additional signal sources. Up to four instruments can be daisy-chained or six instruments synchronized in parallel, providing up to twelve phase-synchronous outputs with dual-channel models.
Alternative Products
When several generator functions are required in a single instrument, the GW Instek MFG-2000 Series is a suitable alternative. For test applications requiring output frequencies up to 80 MHz, consider the GW Instek AFG-3000 Series.
