What performance criteria characterise AC power supply units?

  • STABILITY IS CRUCIAL

    Electronic devices are sensitive to power fluctuations. Voltage peaks or similar reduce the service life and reliability of electronic components. AC power supplies must therefore convert the mains voltage into a stable and clean output voltage that is free from interference in order to prevent potential damage.

  • ADAPTABLE DEVICES

    To ensure that devices can be tested under a wide range of conditions, the test systems must be as adaptable and flexible as possible in order to be able to map a wide variety of scenarios. Programmable AC power supply units are therefore now "state of the art".

  • MAPPING FOREIGN COUNTRIES WITH NETWORK SIMULATORS

    AC power supply units can be used to simulate global power supply conditions in order to test products that are used internationally. Manufacturers can thus ensure the compatibility and performance of their products under a wide range of voltage and frequency conditions before they are launched on the market. The IT7900P (ITECH) grid simulator, for example, can simulate single-phase, three-phase, antiphase and multi-channel applications as well as in the master/slave parallel circuit up to 960 kVA power.

By precisely controlling the test conditions, developers can ensure that their products fulfil the required performance parameters and at the same time meet the safety requirements.

DC power supplies

The demands on power supply units are becoming ever more stringent. The industry demands ever higher power densities, accuracies, higher dynamic behaviour and the simulation of complex situations.

More and more frequently, industry is requesting outputs >1 megawatt, such as those realised by the IT6600C DC load from Itech. Here, the network of power supply units acts as both a source and a load. This leads directly to bidirectional power supply units that fulfil this dual-track requirement. To reduce energy costs, bidirectional devices are often requested as a regenerative solution.

 

What are bidirectional, regenerative power supply units?

Regenerative bidirectional power supplies can be used both as an energy source and to simulate a consumer and feed the energy absorbed back into the energy grid.
