Electrical Safety Testing in Production and Test Labs
The Associated Research HypotULTRA® 78xx Series is an automated electrical safety tester for production lines and test labs. The instruments test electrical products, assemblies and cables with AC Hipot, DC Hipot, insulation resistance, ground continuity and, depending on the model, high-current ground bond. The 2U design, touchscreen operation and data storage fit recurring production tests with documented limit values.
Test AC/DC Dielectric Withstand and Insulation Resistance
In the AC withstand test, all models operate with test voltages up to 5 kV AC. For DC Hipot and insulation resistance tests, up to 6 kV DC is available depending on the model. The instruments compare measured values with HI and LO limits and verify whether insulation, clearance and creepage distances and safety-relevant assemblies pass the required test sequence.
Model Selection by Test Scope and Power Reserve
The selection depends on the test types in the electrical safety test station. Model 7820 covers AC Hipot and ground continuity. Models 7800 and 7850 add DC Hipot and insulation resistance. Models 7804 and 7854 also include high-current ground bond testing up to 40 A; 7800 and 7854 are designed for 500 VA requirements.
Safety Functions for High-Voltage Test Stations
SmartGFI® monitors the current path to ground and quickly shuts down the high-voltage output in the event of dangerous leakage. The Remote Safety Interlock integrates safety cells, test hoods or door contacts. Charge-LO® verifies DUT connection, while Ramp-HI® reduces false failures caused by charging current on capacitive DUTs.
Automation, Data and Multiplexer Integration
For automated test stations, the instruments store up to 2,000 test steps and 100,000 test results. USB and RS-232 are integrated, while Ethernet and GPIB are available as options. For multi-point testing, an optional internal HV multiplexer or the SC6540 expands the test setup to multiple test points on the DUT.
Alternative Products
If higher test voltages are required for dedicated AC or DC dielectric withstand tests, the Associated Research HypotMAX® 77xx Series is a suitable alternative. If lower test voltages are sufficient and, depending on the model, insulation resistance or ground continuity also needs to be tested, the Associated Research Hypot® 38xx Series is an option. If leakage current testing, Functional Run or an integrated AC source is to be part of the test sequence, the Associated Research OMNIA II 82xx Series is suitable depending on the model. For dedicated high-current ground bond tests, the Associated Research HYAMP® 3240 complements the test station.
