V/I Signature Tester for Unpowered PCB Testing

Huntron 2800: Troubleshooting Directly at the Circuit Node

The Huntron Tracker 2800 tests populated printed circuit boards and electronic components without applied operating voltage. A current-limited sinusoidal test signal generates a characteristic V/I signature at the test point.
Comparing it with the signatures of a verified reference assembly reveals deviations in the electrical behavior of individual circuit nodes. This allows faults to be narrowed down to component level without powering up the assembly.

Adjusting the Test Signal to the Component

Six test voltages from 200 mV to 20 V, nine source resistances from 10 Ω to 100 kΩ and six frequencies from 20 Hz to 2 kHz provide more than 100 combinations. This allows the test signal to be matched to resistors, capacitors, inductors and semiconductor junctions.
Two measurement channels simplify the direct comparison of corresponding points on the reference assembly and the assembly under test. The color touchscreen displays the signatures directly on the instrument.

Evaluating Signatures and Activating Components

Huntron SigAssist derives indicative values for resistance, capacitance, forward breakdown voltage and reverse breakdown voltage from the signature. These values support troubleshooting but do not replace calibrated component measurements.
The integrated DC auxiliary source supplies 0 to 10 V at up to 200 mA and can selectively activate SCRs, TRIACs and relays during testing.

Clear Scope of Application

The Tracker operates as a standalone bench instrument and is suitable for testing in repair, rework, quality assurance and electronics diagnostics.
The Tracker is intended for diagnosing de-energized circuits. It does not perform functional testing on powered assemblies and does not provide the functions of a programmable DC power supply.

Alternative Products

The Huntron 2800S adds two 40-pin IDC connectors for cable-based scanning of multiple test points. The Huntron Tracker 3200S provides integrated 128-pin scanning and connects to a Huntron Access Prober for automated probing.
