Programmable AC/DC Power Supplies for Power Line Fault and Input Tests
GW Instek ASR-2000 Series: AC, DC, and AC+DC Power Supplies for Test Subjects
The devices in the GW Instek ASR-2000 Series supply electronic assemblies, automotive electronics, and household appliances with AC, DC, or combined AC+DC output. Depending on the operating mode, voltages of up to 350 V rms AC or ±500 V DC and frequencies up to 999.9 Hz are available. At the same time, they measure voltage, current, and active, apparent, and reactive power.
Mains Events, Inrush Current, and Harmonics
The Simulate Mode defines mains outages, voltage surges, voltage sags, or frequency changes. For multiple states in a fixed sequence, Sequence Mode executes programmed steps in sequence; custom voltage waveforms can be saved and recalled as arbitrary waveforms. Ipk Hold records the highest inrush current, while the harmonic analysis evaluates voltage and current components up to the 100th order.
External Signals and Voltage at the Device Under Test
External AC or AC/DC signals can control the output, superimpose on the internally generated signal, or serve for synchronization. For long connection cables, Remote Sense measures directly at the device under test and compensates for voltage drops of up to five percent of the output voltage. Phase angle and rise time determine the turn-on and turn-off profiles.
Power, Form Factor, and Interfaces
The ASR-2050 and ASR-2050R deliver 500 VA, while the ASR-2100 and ASR-2100R deliver 1000 VA. The standard versions are benchtop units; the R models are designed for 3U half-rack systems. Since the units operate as AC/DC sources, they are suitable for test objects without energy feedback; for applications with energy feedback, a bidirectional unit class is required. USB, LAN, and external control I/O are standard; RS-232C and GPIB are optional. The selection criteria therefore include power, current range, form factor, and system connectivity.
Alternative Products
For those performing exclusively AC input tests up to 1000 VA, the GW Instek APS-7000E series offers a linear AC source. If the device under test is to feed energy back into the grid, or if both source and load operation are required in a single unit, the Kewell G6000 series is a suitable option. For regenerative grid simulations in higher power classes, the ITECH IT7900P series is available.
