Magna-Power DBx Module – Add-On Module for High-Stability Magnet Power Supplies

Stable Magnet Currents and DC References

The DBx Module is connected in series to the output of a programmable Magna DC power supply. It corrects deviations in voltage, current, and power. A stable coil current also keeps the generated magnetic field constant. The DBx Module supplies dipole, quadrupole, and steering magnets in high-energy physics as well as magnet coils in medical systems. In ATE calibration systems, the stabilized output provides a voltage or current reference.

Temperature-Stabilized Control with DCCT

A fluxgate DC current transformer (DCCT) measures the output current with galvanic isolation. Setpoints are programmed with 18-bit resolution, while measured values are read back with 24-bit resolution. Low-temperature-drift resistors and other sensitive components are housed in a temperature-controlled compartment. This allows the control loop to reach its stable operating point faster and keeps long-term drift below 5 ppm.

Select the Configuration and Model Based on Filtering, Voltage, and Current Requirements

All three configurations use a temperature-stabilized controller in a 1U rack-mount enclosure.
A1 adds a linear regulator, EMI filters, and an internal DCCT.
B1 retains the controller and internal DCCT but omits the additional output filtering. Both configurations are available with current ratings up to 150 A DC.
C1 uses an external DCCT for high-current applications. The transducer connects to the rear of the module, and models are available up to 10,000 A DC. Available voltage ratings extend to 1,000 V DC.
Because the resolution step size and calibration depend on the maximum voltage and current ratings, the selected model should closely match the required maximum values.

Alternative Products

If a compact programmable DC power supply with 16-bit control and up to 10 kW meets your requirements, the Magna-Power SLx Series is an alternative to a DBx-based system. If protection against reverse voltage from inductive loads is the priority, the Magna-Power BDx Module protects MagnaDC power supplies up to 1,200 VDC and 1,200 ADC.
