Regenerative Grid Simulator With Four-Quadrant Operation for Grid Simulation, AC/DC Testing, and PHIL, Expandable Up to 1 MVA

For Test Tasks With Defined Grid Simulation

The ITECH IT7900EP Series is designed for test tasks in which devices under test are not simply powered, but tested under specifically defined grid conditions. Typical applications include PCS (Power Conversion Systems), energy storage systems, microgrid components, and other grid-related power electronic systems. Unlike a pure AC source, the series not only delivers power, but can also simulate grid conditions as a load and feed energy from the device under test back into the grid. At the same time, the series supports four-quadrant AC/DC operation.

Define Grid Events Precisely and Test Them Reproducibly

The IT7900EP Series is particularly useful wherever a device under test must respond to defined grid events. According to the manufacturer, these include harmonic and interharmonic synthesis, anti-islanding, and low-voltage ride-through. This allows users to verify whether a system remains stable, regulates correctly, and fulfills the required functions under changing grid conditions. The necessary grid conditions can be set precisely in the test setup and repeated reproducibly.

Four Output Modes Expand the Range of Applications

The IT7900EP Series supports four output modes: AC, DC, AC+DC, and DC+AC. This means the system can be used not only for classic AC grid simulation, but also for test tasks involving DC output or combined AC/DC output forms. This is especially useful when different supply modes must be covered in the test setup with a single system.

Regenerative Operation for High-Power Test Setups

The IT7900EP Series covers a power range from 21 to 126 kVA and can be expanded to 1 MVA and beyond via master-slave operation. With an output voltage of up to 350 V AC (L-N) or 606 V AC (L-L), the series covers not only standard low-voltage grids, but also provides sufficient headroom for testing in demanding industrial environments. This is particularly important where source and regenerative feedback interact within the same test setup. Energy absorbed from the device under test during sink operation is not dissipated as heat, but returned to the grid. This reduces the energy demand of the test setup and lowers the thermal load in the lab.

As a Power Amplifier for PHIL Applications

The devices in the IT7900EP Series can be used as power amplifiers in PHIL applications. PHIL stands for Power Hardware-in-the-Loop and describes test setups in which a simulation environment and a real device under test operate together in a shared control loop. In this role, the series reproduces predefined grid conditions with real power at the device under test. This makes it possible to examine grid-connected systems under practical and reproducible conditions.

Select the IT7900EP Series to Match Your Test Task

Together with you, we configure the ITECH IT7900EP Series to match your devices under test, grid events, and test procedures. The result is a powerful test setup that allows you to define grid conditions reproducibly and map demanding test tasks reliably.
