ITECH IT8900A/E: Testing Power Electronics Under High DC Load
The ITECH IT8900A/E Series applies defined DC loads to DUTs in battery, fuel cell, charging, and power supply tests. As an electronic high-power DC load, it absorbs energy from the DUT and shows how output voltage, load current, and shutdown behavior respond under load.
From Stand-Alone Unit to Scalable Load System
Variants with 150 V, 600 V, or 1200 V cover different DC test voltages.
Stand-alone units absorb up to 54 kW; in master/slave parallel operation, load power increases up to 600 kW. The right configuration for each test task depends on voltage range, load current, power, rack height, and planned parallel operation.
Testing Load Transients, Discharge, and Protection Points
For dynamic tests, Dynamic Mode and List Mode generate load transients, sequences, and overload profiles. OCP Test, OPP Test, Auto Test, and Battery Test build on this logic: they capture shutdown points, discharge profiles, and limit deviations within the same test logic.
The A Series provides eight operating modes, including combined modes; the E Series is limited to the four basic operating modes CC, CV, CR, and CP.
Test Bench Integration, Protection Functions, and Instrument Class
CAN, LAN, GPIB, USB, RS232, analog interface, and SCPI integrate the programmable DC load into test benches, PLCs, and ATE systems. OVP, OCP, OPP, OTP, Soft Start, Soft Stop, current limiting, and power limiting reduce risks during overload or operator error.
The IT8900A/E absorbs energy from the DUT and does not operate as a source. DC power supply, regenerative operation, AC sources, and hipot testing require other instrument classes.
Alternative Products
If the test task requires higher dynamics, more load power per unit, or additional analysis functions, the ITECH IT8100A/E Series is a suitable alternative. For source/sink testing with active DC supply and energy recovery, consider the ITECH IT6600C Series. If regenerative AC/DC load profiles need to be tested, the ITECH IT8200E Series is the more suitable instrument class.
