ITECH IT8100A/E: Precise Load Simulation for High-Current, High-Power, and Transient Testing
The ITECH IT8100A/E Series is a new generation of programmable high-power electronic DC loads for test applications with extreme power requirements. As a powerful current sink, it absorbs DC power up to 1.8 MW and realistically reproduces dynamic load profiles — for example, in AI data centers and power electronics for energy and battery systems.
Thanks to the high power absorption per unit, test setups can be designed more compactly, rack and lab space can be used more efficiently, and the number of required load modules can be significantly reduced.
Up to 86.4 kW per Unit, scalable to 1.8 MW, with 150 A/µs
The series is available in 60 V, 150 V, 600 V, and 1200 V versions. Depending on the model, it can absorb up to 86.4 kW of load power and can be expanded into the MW range via optical master-slave parallel operation. With high current slew rate, high power density, and fast signal acquisition, the series is suitable for test setups in which load profiles, load changes, and power reserves must be reproduced reliably under high-current conditions.
More Test Functions, Fewer Devices in the Test Setup
How can load steps and real load profiles be simulated without integrating additional devices into the test setup? The ITECH IT8100A/E Series reproduces such load profiles directly within the unit. Dynamic, LIST, Sequence, and Sweep functions are available for this purpose.
In addition, the series enables OCP/OPP tests, short-circuit tests, and battery tests. For more complex load simulations, user-defined waveforms with up to 1,000,000 points can be integrated.
Integrated scope and datalog functions monitor and evaluate these processes.
For integration into higher-level test systems, an analog 0–10 V control interface is also available. This keeps load setting, monitoring, and evaluation concentrated in just a few individual devices.
IT8100A and IT8100E Compared
What additional test tasks can a high-power electronic DC load cover beyond pure load profile simulation? The IT8100A Series is designed for these extended test requirements. It integrates EIS (electrochemical impedance spectroscopy) from 0.01 Hz to 20 kHz with Bode and Nyquist display.
Additional features include CE mode, CC Pulse, Table mode, and a 5½-digit DVM (digital voltmeter). This is especially relevant for battery impedance analysis and other electrochemical test tasks. In fuel cells with low voltage, high current, and dynamic operating behavior, it enables measurements under conditions that conventional low-power impedance analysis solutions can cover only to a limited extent.
In combination with AC sweep functions up to 50 kHz, the IT8100A models cover test tasks that go beyond conventional low-power impedance analyzers.
The IT8100E models are the better choice when highly dynamic load tests, high load power, and scalable system expansion are the priority and additional analysis and specialized functions are not required.
