ITECH IT8700: Testing Output Behavior Under DC Load
The ITECH IT8700 Series applies defined current, voltage, power, or resistance loads to DUTs and shows how their output responds to load changes.
Typical applications include AC/DC and DC/DC power supply testing, battery and solar testing, as well as tests on LED and communication power supplies.
Depending on the load module, the modular multi-channel DC load operates up to 500 V, 120 A, and 600 W; one mainframe controls up to 8 channels, and up to 16 channels are possible with an expansion frame.
Making Load Changes Visible
In the test, the ITECH IT8700 Series shows whether an output remains stable under changing load, regulates slowly, or drops. For this purpose, it generates dynamic load profiles and runs List Mode sequences step by step. With up to 25 kHz in dynamic mode and up to 50 kHz measurement speed, it captures fast load and control behavior on power supplies, DC/DC converters, and DC DUTs.
Testing Multiple DC Outputs in Parallel
For DC power supplies with multiple outputs, looking at a single voltage rail is often not enough. The IT8700 Series loads multiple DC outputs in parallel and shows how the individual outputs respond to load changes. With suitable dual-channel modules, the available power is dynamically distributed between the channels.
Operating Modes, Test Bench Integration, and Selection
CC, CV, CR, and CP cover the key DC load profiles; Auto Test runs through load points and shows when the DUT leaves the specified range. USB, RS232, and LAN connect the programmable DC load to test benches and ATE.
Key selection criteria include voltage, load current, power, channel count, and interface. The IT8700 absorbs energy from the DUT; DC supply, regenerative operation, AC sources, battery cycling, hipot testing, or insulation testing require a different instrument class.
Alternative Products
For programmable multi-channel DC load tests with similar voltage, current, and power ranges, the ITECH IT8700P Series may be suitable. If faster load transients, up to 600 V, or scalable system power up to 4.8 kW are required, the ITECH IT8700P+ Series is the stronger choice. For test setups that need to source power or feed energy back, bidirectional power supplies and loads are the more appropriate instrument class.
