Regenerative Electronic DC Load for Battery Testing and High-Power DC DUTs

ITECH IT8000: Absorb High DC Power and Feed Energy Back to the Grid

The ITECH IT8000 Series is designed for DUTs that deliver high DC power, such as high-voltage batteries, fuel cells, DC power supplies, and power electronics. Models up to 2250 V and system currents up to 8000 A also cover demanding high-voltage and high-current tests. Instead of dissipating the absorbed energy as heat, the load feeds up to 95% of it back into the local grid. This reduces heat generation and cooling requirements, especially during long discharge and endurance tests.

Current, voltage, power, and resistance can be controlled directly. The LIST function and arbitrary waveform generator can reproduce load steps, ramps, and changing operating points. During battery discharge tests, the IT8000 can automatically stop the test once a defined limit for voltage, capacity, or time is reached.

For larger test systems, the series can be expanded from an 18 kW standalone unit to up to 2 MW in master-slave operation. USB, CAN, LAN, and Digital I/O integrate the load into automated test systems. The IT8000 is a regenerative DC load; other product series are intended for source/sink, AC load, or hipot testing.
