ITECH IT6008B: Bidirectional DC Tests with Energy Recovery
The ITECH IT6000B is a regenerative, bidirectional DC power supply that covers different voltage, current, and power ranges depending on the model. It can operate both as a programmable DC source and as a regenerative electronic load. This is especially useful when a device under test needs to absorb energy, feed energy back, or switch between both operating modes during a test.
Source and Load in One Device
In source mode, the IT6000B supplies the device under test with adjustable DC power. In sink mode, it absorbs energy and feeds it back into the grid instead of converting it into heat. This allows charging, discharging, and regenerative tests to be performed with one device, without constantly rebuilding the test setup.
Depending on the model, voltages up to 2250 V are possible — from low-voltage applications with high currents to high-voltage tests.
For Battery, PV, and Automotive Tests
For dynamic test sequences, the IT6000B offers an integrated waveform generator. Arbitrary waveforms can be created, and LIST files can be imported via USB. This makes it possible to realistically reproduce load profiles, voltage dips, start-up processes, or other DC sequences.
For automotive applications, stored voltage curves based on common onboard power standards are also available. With CC/CV priority, users can define whether fast voltage regulation or current-led testing with minimal overshoot should take priority.
Scalable for Laboratory and Test Bench Use
Thanks to SiC technology, the IT6000B achieves a high power density of up to 18 kW in 3U. For higher power levels, multiple units can be connected in parallel in master/slave operation. USB, CAN, LAN, and digital I/Os are included as standard; GPIB, analog, and RS232 interfaces are optionally available. This allows the IT6000B to be integrated into laboratory setups, automated test systems, and industrial DC test benches.
When the IT6000B Is the Right Choice
The IT6000B is suitable for test applications where source and sink are required in one system. Typical applications include charging and discharging batteries, testing bidirectional DC/DC converters, and PV and battery simulations in energy systems. For pure AC grid simulations, hipot tests, or electrical safety tests, other device concepts are required.
Alternative Products
For similar high-power bidirectional DC test setups, the ITECH IT6000C Series is a close alternative. If higher power scaling is required, the ITECH IT6600C Series may be suitable. For more compact regenerative source/load applications, the ITECH IT-M3900B Series is a practical option.
