Regenerative Grid Simulator for Grid Disturbance Testing, PHiL, and Regenerative AC/DC Testing
When an AC Source Is No Longer Enough
The IT7900P Series from ITECH is more than a standard AC power source. It is a regenerative grid simulator for realistic AC/DC testing.
The series combines an AC source, a 4-quadrant AC/DC source, a regenerative AC/DC load, and a PHiL power amplifier in one platform. This allows realistic testing of PV inverters, ESS converters, EVSE, and V2G/V2X systems, for example. Grid disturbances, energy feedback, and dynamic transitions between source and load operation can also be tested in a controlled and realistic way.
With up to 21 kVA in 3U, 350 V (L-N), and expandability beyond 1 MVA, the series also covers high power requirements in laboratories and test benches.
For Grid Simulation Instead of Pure Power Supply
The IT7900P Series is the right choice when the goal is not just to supply power, but to test in a targeted way. AC, DC, AC+DC, and DC+AC reproducibly replicate real supply conditions, DC bias, ripple, and defined disturbance profiles. LIST, SWEEP, and Surge & Sag modes, programmable output impedance, and freely definable waveforms support tests for voltage dips, voltage rises, frequency variation, phase jumps, LVRT, and harmonic injection.
For Test Tasks With Source and Load Operation
The IT7900P Series combines grid simulation, an AC/DC source, a regenerative AC/DC load, and a PHiL amplifier in one system. This simplifies the test setup because fewer individual instruments need to be integrated, coordinated, and operated. At the same time, the units feed absorbed energy back into the grid instead of converting it into heat. This reduces cooling effort and relieves the mains connection, especially during long test sequences and at higher power levels.
The series integrates well into automated test systems via USB, CAN, LAN, and Digital I/O. GPIB, analog interface, and RS232 are available as options.
This is where the difference from a conventional AC source becomes clear: a standard AC power source is often sufficient for pure supply tasks. However, when grid behavior, energy feedback, and transitions between source and load operation need to be tested, grid simulators such as the IT7900P Series from ITECH are the technically more suitable solution.
