Electronic DC Load
What is an electronic DC load?
An electronic DC load replaces a fixed load resistor in a test bench. It absorbs electrical energy from a DC source and shows how the device under test behaves under real load conditions.
Users can test, for example, whether a DC power supply remains stable during load steps, how a battery discharges or how a DC/DC converter responds to different load points.
Typical operating modes are constant current, constant voltage, constant power and constant resistance.
Many devices also offer programmable load profiles, measurement functions, protection functions, interfaces and remote sense for compensating voltage drops in the connection leads.
Conventional electronic DC loads usually convert the absorbed energy into heat. If the energy is to be fed back, a regenerative DC load is used. Key selection criteria include voltage range, current range, power, dynamics, accuracy, cooling and interfaces.
