Simulate Battery Cells and Test BMS Responses Under Controlled Conditions

ITECH IT2600: Test BMS Responses to Critical Cell Conditions

How does a battery management system (BMS) respond when a cell voltage drops, cell balancing is activated, or a fault occurs? The ITECH IT2600 Series consists of multi-channel battery cell simulators that reproduce these conditions under controlled conditions. This allows engineers to evaluate cell voltage monitoring, protection thresholds, and active and passive cell balancing. Responses to open-circuit faults, short circuits, and reverse polarity can also be tested.

As programmable, bidirectional battery cell simulators and BMS testers, IT2600 Series instruments feature eight electrically isolated source/sink channels. Each channel simulates cell voltages from 0 to 6 V and adjustable internal resistance. Battery models also reproduce dynamic cell behavior. This enables engineers to test battery management systems and cell monitoring units (CMUs) under repeatable conditions without using physical battery cells.

Multi-Channel Testing, Test System Integration, and Model Selection

By connecting multiple IT2600 units, complex battery cell configurations of up to 200 cells can be simulated for BMS testing. The free ITECH PV2600 PC software provides centralized control and enables repeatable test sequences. CAN, LAN, and USB interfaces also allow integration into automated test systems.

Different models are available to match the required sourcing and sinking currents. This allows users to test BMS functions such as cell balancing, as well as perform basic charge, discharge, and cycling tests on individual battery cells. High-power testing of complete battery packs requires dedicated battery test systems.

Alternative Products

The ITECH IT2700 Series supports battery simulation as well as charge and discharge testing when equipped with suitable bidirectional modules. The ITECH IT2705, by contrast, combines source, load, and measurement functions in a modular DC power analyzer. Both systems are suitable when additional DC measurement and testing capabilities are required beyond battery cell simulation.

Supplier

LXinstruments has been supplying ITECH equipment since 2020. When an individual instrument needs to become part of a complete test system, we support you with product selection, system sizing and integration into the automation environment. The key is to ensure that the DUT, power requirements, interfaces and test sequence work together.

We also use ITECH equipment in customized test systems. Depending on the test application, we combine power supplies, electronic loads, grid simulation and measurement technology so that the functions match both the DUT and the test sequence.
