FRA (Frequency Response Analysis)
What does FRA mean?
FRA stands for Frequency Response Analysis. It is a measurement method used to analyze how a system responds to different frequencies. In electrochemistry, FRA is particularly applied for the characterization of batteries, fuel cells, and electrolysis cells.
How it works:
In FRA, a small alternating current signal is superimposed on the system under investigation. By varying the frequency, it is possible to determine how the system responds in terms of voltage, current, and phase shift. This allows impedance, conductivity, and dynamic processes to be made visible.
Practical applications:
- Characterization of fuel cells, batteries, and electrolysis cells
- Analysis of electrochemical processes
- Foundation for Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy (EIS), which is used in many measurement systems
Difference between FRA and EIS:
While FRA describes the method of frequency response analysis, EIS refers to its specific application in electrochemistry. Many measurement devices therefore use the "FRA mode" to record impedance spectra (EIS).
