Coaxial Active RF Probe up to 26 GHz
PICOPROBE Modell 35: Capture Internal RF Signals with Low Input Load
The GGB PICOPROBE® Model 35 is an active, high-impedance RF probe for direct on-wafer probing and measurements at internal test points of high-frequency circuits up into the microwave range. It captures signals at internal circuit nodes and outputs them with 10:1 attenuation to a 50-ohm oscilloscope input. At the measurement point, the probe loads the circuit nominally with 1.25 MΩ in parallel with 0.05 pF. The frequency range from DC to 26 GHz enables the capture of fast RF signals with DC components.
Full Bandwidth with a Single Contact Point
The Picoprobe Model 35 probe achieves its bandwidth with a single contact point (Single Probe Point). This allows the signal to be captured directly at the measurement point when the contact area is small or the probing setup offers limited space.
Capture DC-Coupled RF Signals up to 26 GHz
The rise/fall time is 14 ps for a pulse up to 3 V. The signal response shown in the datasheet for a 0.25 V pulse with a 25 ps rise time illustrates the probe’s fast response behavior. For measurements at the contact point, the voltage level matters: the active probe operates from -6 V to +6 V; within ±3 V the measurement linearity is specified at 2%. At higher DC bias or higher signal voltage, suitability must be checked before selection. If your application calls for passive coaxial contacting or a different frequency range instead of an active, high-impedance probe, you can find additional RF and wafer probes in the Probe Tips/Probes category.
Select Probe Tips to Match the Contact Area
The replaceable tungsten-wire probe tips are available with wire diameters from 5 µm to 35 µm; the corresponding tip radii range from <0.1 µm to <2.0 µm. Small tip radii make it easier to contact small, sensitive structures precisely. Larger wire diameters increase the mechanical reserve at higher contact force. Tip radius and wire diameter therefore have to match the contact area, the required contact force, and the probing setup.
Alternative Products
For measurement tasks focused on passive coaxial contacting, the PICOPROBE® Model 10 series up to 11 GHz is the natural alternative. For coaxial microwave probes in significantly higher frequency classes, it is worth comparing the PICOPROBE® 40-110 series.
