What is Active Resistance?
Active resistance represents the real portion of electrical resistance that results in the continuous conversion of energy, typically into heat or mechanical work.
Because no energy is stored and returned, current and voltage remain in phase.
Active resistance therefore forms the basis for calculating active power and influences the behavior of electrical loads independently of frequency.
In practical applications, active resistance appears in classic ohmic loads such as heating resistors, incandescent lamps or load resistors used in test and measurement setups.
It determines how much electrical energy a system can actually utilize and how strongly components are thermally stressed.
