CW (Continuous Wave)
What does CW mean?
In electronic measurement and test engineering, the abbreviation CW usually stands for Continuous Wave.
A Continuous Wave signal is a sinusoidal signal with a constant frequency and amplitude, which —unlike pulsed signals (PW = Pulsed Wave)— is transmitted or measured without any interruption.
In measurement technology, CW is commonly used with spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, and RF measurements when a pure carrier needs to be generated or analyzed
with maximum accuracy and reproducibility for reliable results.
Typical applications include:
Radar (CW radar vs. pulsed radar), Signal generators
Power amplifier testing, Calibration tasks and more.
